On the hill was Chenghuang Temple (“the temple of the city god”）， which was built in the Ming Dynasty in memory of Zhou Xin, an integrate, impartial and incorruptible official.

Therefore, Wushan Hill is also called Chenghuang Hill.

Today Chenghuang Pavilion, the former Chenghuang Temple, is an ideal place to gain a bird’s eye view of the West Lake.

Under the hill is Wushan Square, where Hangzhou people spend their night leisure.

Various performances are often held here, to attract crowds of people.
